When a community member requests aid from MAD, we have a number of ways to help. Depending on the details and needs of each request, our Intake team will help each community member access one of the following paths of assistance:
- MAD is home to a team of experienced sustainability advisors with a wide range of professional experience in social work, counseling, and crisis management. A sustainability advisor will work with an individual community member to help find the best long term solution to their particular situation which can include health insurance options, prescription access help, guidance applying to patient assistance programs, or help navigating local public or charitable health options.
- Financial Aid
- When MAD receives a request for financial assistance for a copay, insurance premium, or healthcare supplies, the request is assessed based on urgency. For the most urgent request, the MAD team will engage a direct community outreach strategy to crowdfund the request, while less urgent requests will populate onto our person-to-person mutual aid table for community funding.
- Supply Aid
- If the request is directly for non-prescription diabetes supplies (test strips, lancets, meters, ketone strips, needle tips, syringes), MAD will either match the community member with a registered donor, who has supplies to spare, or gather funding for immediate purchase of over the counter supplies. At this time, MAD cannot facilitate the donation and redistribution of prescription supplies, but our sustainability team can help community members access resources in their area like state repositories and community pharmacies.
